Washington DC

While a spring time visit would have been ideal to take in the sights and enjoy the cherry blossom festival, we chose to take advantage of our President’s day weekend with a visit to our nation’s capital. Despite, February being right smack in the middle of winter and with this year being especially cold (the lows were in the single digits!), the best advantage is that it’s the low season and lines are either really short or non existent. As long as you prepared to weather the cold, you’ll be just fine.

The highlights of our trip included, The National Museum of Natural History, The National Museum of American History, Washington Memorial, Lincoln Memorial and Ford’s Theater.

Entrance fee for all museums listed above: Free

Traveler’s tip: Parking in DC is complicated. Parking garages are pricey and while street parking exist, the rules are voluminous. There are zones, time limits, reserved parking and rush hour restrictions to name a few of the many rules you’d have to adhere to. We would recommend using pubic transportation when possible. As we visited on a holiday weekend, we were fortunate to have no street rules on Sunday and Monday (President’s day).
