Night at the Opera – La Scala
Teatro alla Scala, more commonly known as just “La Scala” is one of the oldest and most well known opera houses in the world. Famous for it’s beautiful neoclassical design and excellent acoustics, many of the top opera/ballet/orchestra groups have performed here throughout it’s history. So if you want to impress opera lovers alike, grabbing a performance is an absolute must!
Fun Fact: The original La Scala was completed in 1778 under the guidance of Italian architect Giuseppe Piermarini. However due to extensive damages incurred during the second world war, the entire structure had to be torn down and rebuilt (twice! due to inefficiencies in the first rebuild), so the structure you see today is only about 50 years old. Worked out well in the end as many of the original details/designs were carefully preserved while making structural & technological improvements which have only helped improve the already well regarded acoustics and overall experience.
Traveler’s Tip: Discounted tickets usually go on sale an hour or so before the scheduled start time. If you’re not too picky with where you’re sitting, you can try to show up within that time frame for tickets. Seat availability is also posted online, so best to check that the tier you’re interested in isn’t already sold out.
